What Does the QRS 101 Mat Do? Does it Work?
QRS uses a series of magnetic pulses to improve microcirculation in your body. It does this by increasing blood flow by magnetizing your cells over a time you set. This magnetized effect caused by the PEMF over time helps improve the functionality of your cells and tissues. Which in turn increases blood flow which transports oxygen to all parts of your body and expells C02 more efficiently.
According to QRS in 2-3 months time with two 8-minute sessions a day, ailments and injuries can see significant improvement. QRS uses 3 different frequency programs that cycle through different Hertz amounts.
You can also change the Intensity within each program which you can see a chart of below. The Intensities are Sensitive (Levels 1-4) Medium (Levels 5-9) and Intensive (Level 10)
We will dig deeper into QRS’s PEMF below.
Where the QRS Rates
The QRS’s strong point is its PEMF settings. It offers broad Frequency settings from .3 to 1000 Hertz with 11 different intensities. Each applicator you apply to the product has a different intensity with the smaller applicators offering a slightly higher intensity rating.
Where the QRS lost most of its points was the price point and the lack of any other therapies that complement PEMF. While this is a PEMF page, other therapies such as Far Infrared Heat, Red Light ,and Negative Ion therapies can all help aid extra blood circulation to affected areas.

How Does the QRS Mat Compare to the Multi Wave?
QRS 101 Mat
- Frequency: 3 Frequency Programs Ranging from .1 – 1000 Hertz
- Wave Type: E Function Signal
- Intensity: up to .3 Gauss for Mat (11 Different Intensity Settings)
- Pulse Duration: 1
- Pre Programs: 3 Pre-Programs (Basis, Vital, Relax)
- Custom Programming: You can get an EQ chip card for customized therapy
Multi Wave Mat
- Frequency: 1-25 Hertz
- Wave Type: Square and Sine Wave
- Intensity: up to 3 Gauss (Settings at 10%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%)
- Pulse Duration (Drop off): Medium, Fast or Ultra Fast
- Pre Programs: 10 :20 minute programs 2 one hour program
- Custom Programming: 313 Billion Combinations to choose from available from above
Before comparing PEMF stats it should be noted that the Multi Wave offers 5 therapies compared to the QRS’s 1 therapy which is one of the factors that contributed to the QRS mats reduced score.
The Multi Wave heats different varieties of crystals which provides you with Far Infrared Heat, Negative Ion therapy, and Crystal Therapy. Heat transfers through crystals which give you deep penetrating heat which, much like PEMF has a wide range of studied benefits.
Studied Benefits of Far Infrared Heat:
- Improving the Condition of Patients with Cardiovascular Diseases (1)
- Improves cellular functions by stimulating cells and tissue (2)
- Helped Decrease Myofascial pain syndrome (muscle pain) (3)
- Improved the condition of patients with chronic pain (4)
- Significant clinical improvements of lower back pain (5)
- Inhibited the proliferation of cancer cells (6)
The Multi Wave offers more customizability when it comes to its PEMF compared to the QRS 101 mat. While both have pre-programs you are limited to the Hertz selection of each QRS Program.
This means you can’t select the exact Hertz you want with the exact Intensity you want with the QRS 101 mat. Instead, you have to choose between Basis, Vital, and Relax programs that vary in their Hertz selection. Relax is the lowest frequency range up to 30 Hz and Basis and Vital run up to 1000 Herz Frequency range. We show the Hertz and Intensity ranges below in the PEMF section.
The QRS 101 has a wider Intensity range that varies with different applicators. It’s Gauss does not go as high as the Multi-Wave mat’s though. The Gauss from the QRS goes to a maximum of .40 for the pillow applicator compared to The Multi-wave that has 3 Gauss which gives you more PEMF coverage.
The QRS mat offers only one signal (the E-Function signal) and does not offer a choice in Pulse duration (drop off), which is one of the most important and under-explored points with PEMF. The pulse duration represents the rise and fall of the waveforms. The shorter the pulse duration, the more polarization your cells experience which in turn affects their function to transport oxygen and dispell CO2.
Lastly, there’s the price and warranty. QRS gets full marks for its warranty and gets full marks in terms of reputability with some of the biggest Nobel prize winner names behind it. However ,It’s $5000 + for only one therapy with limited customizability. If you did want further customization you would need to get a chip card from a QRS doctor or therapist to target the ranges you desire. You compare that to the Multi Wave mat where you have 313 Billion combinations of PEMF settings you can use between the Frequency, Intensity, Pulse Duration, and Waveform to set the PEMF YOU FEEL is best for your body.
The Multi Wave mat full-sized mat is $2400 while the smaller pad is $995 and you get 4 additional therapies with the mat.

How Does the QRS Mat Compare to the Bemer Mat?
QRS 101 Mat
- Frequency: 3 Frequency Programs Ranging from .1 – 1000 Hertz
- Wave Type: E Function Signal
- Intensity: up to .3 Gauss for Mat (11 Different Intensity Settings)
- Pulse Duration: 1
- Pre Programs: 3 Pre-Programs (Basis, Vital, Relax)
- Custom Programming: You can get an EQ chip card for customized therapy
Bemer Pro Mat
- Frequency: Bemer has 2 Frequency Settings at 10 and 33 Hertz
- Wave Type: Bemer Signal
- Intensity: 10 Settings to .350 Gauss
- Pulse Duration: 1
- Pre Programs: 3
- Custom Programming: 9 Available Slots where you can control the Intensity levels over a 20 minute window.
When looking at some of the PEMF stats for both the QRS and Bemer mats there are a lot of similarities in terms of the intensities available, the intensity maximum, and the Pre Programs. The main difference in terms of PEMF stats is the Frequency range. QRS has a much more broad frequency range from .1 to 1000 Hertz.
Each Program selected from the QRS controller brings you through a range of different frequencies. The Vital Program gives you 7 higher frequency ranges that go from .1 all the way to 1000 Hertz while the Relax gives you frequency ranges that go from .3 to 30 Hertz.
Meanwhile, Bemer only uses two Frequencies of 10 and 33 Hertz which is fairly limited in Frequency ranges. Varied frequency ranges are one of the key aspects of effective PEMF.
One of Bemers main selling points is its patented Bemer Wave which consists of a series of half wave-shaped sine waves that build in the wave’s intensity as it goes on. One of Bemers main selling points is how their wave is superior to other forms of PEMF. However, there are a lot of studies out there that have positive results with frequency and intensities past Bemer’s capabilities.
Positive Results of PEMF Research Studies Beyond Bemers Frequency and Intensity
- PEMF and inflammation pathway markers in human cells (.019 Gauss, 1000 Hz) (1)
- PEMF and Modulation of Osteogenesis in Human Mesenchymal Stem Cells (.9 Gauss, 7.5 Hz) (2)
- Effects of PEMF on pain ratings in rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia patients (2 Guass, 1000 Hz) (3)
On top of this Bemer is more expensive and only offers a 30-day return period on their devices compared to the 6-month period that QRS mat has with each purchase directly made through them.

How Does the QRS Mat Compare to the Higher Dose Infrared PEMF Mat?
QRS 101 Mat
- Frequency: 3 Frequency Programs Ranging from .1 – 1000 Hertz
- Wave Type: E Function Signal
- Intensity: up to .3 Gauss for Mat (11 Different Intensity Settings)
- Pulse Duration: 1
- Pre Programs: 3 Pre-Programs (Basis, Vital, Relax)
- Custom Programming: You can get an EQ chip card for customized therapy
Higher Dose Infrared PEMF Mat
- Frequency Settings: 4 (3, 7.8, 10, 23 Hz)
- Intensity: 1 Tested 4.7 Gauss Peak Intensity
- PEMF Coils: 4
Higher Does is relatively secretive about their PEMF stats and doesn’t go into a huge amount of detail on them. The only thing we do know about Higher Dose’s PEMF is that it offers 4 Frequency settings that are in the lower range.
The highest Frequency range is not even the highest for the Relax program on the QRS mat. Higher Dose’s tested peak intensity is more prominent though being measured at 4.7 Peak gauss vs the .300 for the QRS mat.
The controller for the Higher Dose mat is also fairly basic and does not have customized PEMF programs. Both controllers are of similar size dimensions as well.
One of the main advantages of the Higher Dose mat is the fact that it offers 3 other therapies (Far infrared Heat, Negative Ion, and Crystal therapy). I especially find far infrared heat to be helpful for blood circulation as this therapy pairs well with PEMF in helping increase blood flow for maintenance and cell/ tissue repair.

QRS PEMF studies
QRS has funded in several studies that can be found on their website. Most have them were conducted in the 1990’s to early 2000’s. QRS’s research studies can be found here.
- QRS treatment of joint pain in elderly patients, 1999 (1)
- QRS systems and its Proof of ion transportation 1999 (2)
- QRS pain reduction 1995 (3)
- QRS treatment of Intervebral disc prolapse 1995 (4)
- QRS treatments with Osteoarthritis 2000-2001 (5)
- QRS treatment on tendonitis 2000 (6)
- QRS full body wound healing 2000 (7)
- QRS rehabilitation of discopathy 2000- 2001 (8)
- QRS treatment of blood flow changes in the retina (9)
You can read through each of them above. It should be noted that not all of these studies have used the QRS 101 mat that is currently sold on the website. Studies have also used the QRS Salute I and II which were earlier models in that time period.
The research shows an overall positive trend of regular PEMF treatment is a valuable option for the maintenance of such ailments.
However, there are a lot of PEMF studies out there that have positive effects outside of QRS’s frequency settings.
- PEMF and Modulation of Osteogenesis in Human Mesenchymal Stem Cells (.9 Gauss, 7.5 Hz) (10)
- PEMF on osteogenesis and osseointegration of porous titanium implants in bone defect repair (20 Gauss, 15 Hz) (11)
- PEMF on on Breast Cancer Cell Line MCF 7 Using Absorption Spectroscopy (3300000 Hertz) (12)
- PEMF on cancer cells and human lymphocytes (350 Gauss, 50 Hz) (13)
This illustrates the point that no one system has the best PEMF but rather, the device that has the biggest range of frequencies, intensities, waveforms, and pulse durations will be better suited to a wider range of individuals who want to cater their PEMF to their needs.
Having a plethora of PEMF combinations between Frequency, Intensity, Pulse Duration and wave types is one of the reasons we rated the Healthy Wave Multi Wave mat as the Best PEMF Mat.
QRS PEMF Stats and Comparison
- Frequency: 3 Frequency Programs Ranging from 3 – 1000 Hertz
- Wave Type: E Function Signal
- Intensity: up to .3 Gauss for Mat (11 Different Intensity Settings)
- Pulse Duration: 1
- Pre Programs: 3 Pre-Programs (Basis, Vital, Relax)
- Custom Programming: You can get a EQ chip card for customized therapy
One of the things that make the QRS system notable is the frequency range of some of its programs. The QRS 101 offers the widest frequency range of all the PEMF mats on this list from .1 all the way to 1000 Hertz. The QRS mat also does not use coils but rather uses magnetic mesh technology that makes sure the PEMF is evenly distributed around the mat instead of specific hot spots that most PEMF mats have with their coil technology. This is a good feature as one wrong fold with a PEMF mat could have the potential to break the coils which would make the mat become useless for PEMF.
QRS Frequency Programs:
QRS does offer a good amount of information on their frequencies here
- Basis Program (General Maintenance ) – 3, 22, 500, 750, 1000 Hz
- Used for: pain, low blood pressure, arthritis, fractures, migraines, hypertension, tachycardia, coronary artery disease, peripheral vascular, thrombosis and stroke
- Vital Program (Higher intensity) – .1, 10, 22, 250, 500, 750 and 1000 Hz
- Used for: peripheral vascular, endothelial dysfunction, coronary artery disease, thrombosis, erectile dysfunction, hypertension, tension headaches, and psoriasis
- Relax Program (Optimizes Relaxation) – .3, 1.5, 3, 10, 22, 30 Hz
- Used for: Deep relaxation, immune stimulation, reduction of sleep, stress reduction
While the QRS mat has a wide range of frequencies you cannot use them in a customized manner as is. Instead, you have to choose from the 3 pre-programs above that cycle through the different sets of frequencies. While cycling through frequencies does give some benefits it is also advantageous to be able to choose one.
So while QRS offers different frequency ranges you have little control over them.
“For example: if you were wanting to stick to the Shumans Resonance that mimics Earth-based frequencies at 7.83 you would want to select to select a constant frequency at 7 or 8 Hertz.”
Far Infrared PEMF Mat Review
QRS Intensity Stats and Comparison
The QRS offers different intensities for different applicators. For now we will mainly cover the mat and pillow since those are the applicators that come with the QRS system.
The QRS system offers the most variety of intensity settings of any of the mats on this list, which is a good thing on the surface. However, the surface intensity maxes out at .40 Gauss in the intensive setting for the pillow applicator. In comparison, the Multi Wave mat in comparison has stats of 3 Gauss and has been tested to have a peak Gauss reading of 6.7 right on the mats surface above the coil. A stronger Gauss reading is more advantageous in the delivery of PEMF. You can see an example of this in the magnetic field chart below.
QRS Waveform
QRS uses the patented E- Function Signal which is a series of tightly packed sinusoidal waves going up and down. There is not a ton of information given about the exact specifics of this waveform but mainly that competitors copy it and that it is a superior waveform. They also go on to state that the E-function waveform guarantees ion transportation.
But our view of this is it’s not the waveform that makes the PEMF effective but the pulse duration/ drop off of the wave. Which QRS has not put out very much information on this. You basically stick to the Frequency programs available and choose what intensity you desire which gives you said waveform.
The QRS Set
The QRS package comes with the mat, controller, pillow applicator, bag and all the cords needed to operate. The whole package weighs around 7.7 Lbs which does make it one of the better portable options on the Best PEMF mats list.
Each applicator offers different intensities which we will list below.
QRS Mat
For a complete full-body application, you would use the full mat. Especially for programs that require full body microcirculation and general repair/ maintenance.
The Full-body QRS mat uses a magnetic mesh technology rather than a set of coils. The magnetic mesh technology is actually smart as this allows you to not have to worry about folding the coils or snapping them which is a more common concern with traditional PEMF mats. How effective this magnetic mesh is in transporting PEMF throughout the mat remains to be seen but this is something we will be doing tests on in the future.
So while the mat is more portable than the other crystal mats it only has 1 therapy (PEMF). Compared to the other 4 (Far infrared, crystal, negative ion and red light therapies) that are included with the crystal mats. Which is best for you will ultimately come down to personal preference. Although we have found the other 4 therapies to aid with blood circulation in conjunction with PEMF.
QRS Mat Intensities (it should be noted that .10 Gauss equals 10 Micortesla)
- Sensitive (Levels 1-4): .003, .03, .06, .09 and .12 Gauss
- Medium (Levels 5-9): .15 , .18, .21, .24, .27 Gauss
- Intensive (Level 10): .30 Gauss
QRS Pillow Applicator
The pillow applicator is used to target specific pain points and joints that need more targeted care. The applicator runs at a bit of a higher gauss on average compared to the mat.
QRS Pillow Applicator Intensities (it should be noted that .10 Gauss equals 10 Micortesla)
- Sensitive (Levels 1-4): .004, .04, .08 , .12, .16
- Medium (Levels 5-9): .20 , .24, .28, .32, .37 Gauss
- Intensive (Level 10): .40 Gauss
You can use the pillow for targeted areas such as targeted back pain (been there!). It can also be used for application to the knee, elbow, shoulder, or foot as the applicator can wrap around the area of discomfort and be placed there from whatever period of time you select from the controller.
Other QRS Applicators Available
The QRS mat has several other applicators available that are sold separately. These applicators run at a lower .0015 – .15 Gauss (or .15 – 15 Micro Tesla). The below applicators are for specific areas that are harder to cover with a full mat or even the applicator that comes with the device. We will go through them briefly here.
Specs Applicator: Used to deliver PEMF treatment to your eye region to prevent wrinkles and dark circles (affectionately known as raccoon eyes). It uses the same principles as other the other applicators promoting blood flow to affected areas. Its PEMF is at a lower Gauss at .0015 to .15 and can be used for up to 12 eye conditions.
QRS Headphones Ear Applicator: Meant for ear-related conditions that run from .0015 to .15 Gauss
QRS Pen Applicator: The pen applicator is used to target small jointed areas such as knuckles, toes, fingers, elbows, and wrists. The pen like the other applicators go from .0015 to .15 Gauss.
EQ-chip card: The EQ chip card is for customized PEMF therapy that can be programmed by a QRS doctor or therapist.
The Controller
The QRS controller is one of the more user-friendly controllers on our list. But it also comes with limited ranges unless you use the QRS chip card that needs to be programmed by a QRS doctor or therapist. So if you want simplified PEMF programs where the device does all the work based on QRS’s research then by all means it’s a good option for PEMF delivery.
However, you should keep in mind that Intensity ranges and the timer are the only things you have full control of. When selecting the programs you only have control of the groupings that QRS has assigned each program. The # 1 rated Multi Wave mat offers a more customized approach to PEMF (Being able to adjust the individual waveform, frequency, intensity, pulse duration, and time as well as 12 pre-programs).
We will go over briefly how to use the controller below.
When you first use this device QRS recommends that you drink water beforehand as the QRS system has a direct effect on electrolyte content (specifically potassium and sodium).
Here is the order in which you use the QRS controller buttons.
Step 1: Pick the Program – On the left side of the controller you can choose between Basis (maintenance and pain recovery), Vital (High Frequencies for specific ailments) and Relax (Lower frequency programs for recharging and relaxing your body). For first-time users, it’s recommended to start with the Relax program first to get your body accustomed to the PEMF Therapy.
Step 2: Choose the Intensity – On the right side of the controller there is 0 Sensitive 5 Medium and 10 which is Intensive. If you press Medium twice you can choose the exact intensity number you wish to choose. It should be noted that for serious pain QRS recommends you up the intensity to around the 6 – 10 Range.
Step 3: Choose the Time Duration – You have a choice between 8, 16, or 25 minutes. Typically for maintenance, you want to choose 8 minutes for an ailment you choose 15 and for specific pain you want to choose 25 minutes.
Step 4: Make sure a specific Applicator is selected – Common mistake! Sometimes you have the wrong applicator selected. We’ve all been there! 😉 Typically the mat is better for sensitve to a medium intensity range while the pillow applicator (or another additional one you may have purchased) for more targeted ailments is recommended for use of higher intensity.
Step 5: Press Start! – To start your PEMF therapy.
The controller while relatively easy to use is a bit bulky and could use some updating aesthetics-wise as it appears the design has been relatively unchanged for the past 25 years or so. Compare that to the Bemer 3000 vs Bemer Pro set controller which has gone through serious change to a touch screen controller over the past few years.
QRS Certifications and Patents
QRS lists 3 patents on its website for its technology. When looking them up I could only find two of them. One of them is expired according to Google Patents.
On the QRS website there is no mention of being FDA approved nor when looking at the FDA website is there any mention of approvals for the QRS 101 mat.
What QRS mostly mention on their website is the research studies which we have referenced above done in the 90’s and early 2000’s.
QRS Warranty and Returns
QRS has the best return policy and warranty with a 5-year warranty (can get a 10 year extended warranty at an extra cost). The package also comes with a 6-month return policy which we believe is a lot more reasonable compared to other traditional mats that only offer a 30-day return policy.
You can look at online retailers that carry the QRS system for the exact terms and conditions as QRS uses a dealer/ re-seller business model instead of being an MLM company or an online e-commerce store. We find with E-Commerce stores there is usually the best customer service because they are focused and developing their own products which means you will get more helpful information.
Is the QRS 101 Mat Worth it?
The QRS mat is a great mat if you want an easy-to-use PEMF device that features an easy-to-use controller and pre-settings that you can set and forget. This device does offer some customizability with a chip card that can be programmed by a QRS doctor or therapist.
Some things that the QRS 101 mat does have going for it is:
- Best Warranty and Returns Period
- Offers a decent number of intensities and Frequencies available within its programs
- The package is highly portable and does not weigh much
- Has a lot of research studies that use the system
- The founders have a lot of experience with PEMF therapy and cell magnetization
Compared to the Bemer mat the QRS runs through more frequencies in it/s programs however, it lacks the customizability and number of pre-programs available that the Multi Wave mat offers.
Overall the QRS got good marks in PEMF therapy and warranty and return policies but unfortunately lost a lot of its marks with its price and other therapies available.
Other available therapies like far infrared heat, red light therapy and negative ion therapy help aid in blood flow and circulation to blood cells and tissues which helps with both cellular maintenance and inflammation in affected areas.
