Higher Dose is a new player in the PEMF mat space. They are best known as being an authority in the infrared Sauna space. So how do they compare in the health mat space?
The Higher Dose Infrared PEMF mat had some good points such as PEMF hitting Schumann’s Resonance,Alpha, Beta, Theta and Delta Brain Wave Frequencies.
It also came at the best price point on the list at just under $1000.
However based on our criteria we found it missed the mark in some key areas such as the warranty and guarantees. As well as the PEMF and crystal varieties associated with the mat.
If you want a mat that has a great Return/ Warranty policy and more PEMF stats we prefer the Multi Wave mat or the Healthy Wave 5 Therapy mat.

For those new to this site, we like to cut through the marketing and look at the stats.
Healing properties: Higher Dose features 4 healing properties(PEMF, Far Infrared Heat, Negative ion and Crystal Therapies) but misses out on the Red Light Therapy. It got a good rating here because it featured the staple therapies.
PEMF Stats: In this area the mat lacked the variety of frequencies compared to the other mats. On their website they also do not state their PEMF intensity, wave signal or drop off rate.
In fairness to them they feature 4 frequencies that hit Schumann’s Resonance, Alpha, Theta and Beta Brainwaves. All which are important frequencies to hit.
But as studies below have shown, PEMF can be found beneficial in a wide variety of different frequencies and intensities. We go into this further below..
Crystal Stats: The High Dose mat uses 20 pounds of both Tourmaline and Amethyst crystals for far infrared heat. While they were lacking in crystal varieties they did choose the two stones that are the biggest negative ion conductors. We are not entirely sure what the ratio is between the tourmaline and amethyst but we will update when we know.
Warranty Stats: This is the area where Higher Dose lost a lot of their points. Their return period is well below the industry standard with a 14 day unopened return policy. The 1 year limited warranty period is a bit better at one year and it does cover the controller and replacements.
14 days with an unopened policy is pretty HARSH in our opinion. The 1 year limited warranty does fall a bit short of the mark as well. The best PEMF mat has a 2 year warranty and a 5 year Controller warranty.
Price: By far this is where Higher Does did the best compared to the other PEMF mats. It’s price tag for a full sized mat is $995 while the more portable Go mat is $499.
With the price you do get what you pay for which is essentially less PEMF options, less crystal varieties and a less than exceptional warranty period.
How the Higher Dose Infrared PEMF Mat Works
While Higher Dose goes in depth with their marketing to the Wellness and Fitness community. They really don’t go into a lot of detail on their website about their PEMF or Far infrared Heat stats.
The most I could get out of their stats was listening to this interview with the CEO, Lauren here..I’ve also sent some questions to the customer support team. When I hear back from them I will update you on this.
High Dose Infrared PEMF mat uses 4 different therapies that we explain in detail below.
PEMF Therapy
We do not have a complete picture on Higher Dose’s PEMF in relation to the criteria above but we can dive into their Frequencies.
Higher Dose uses 4 Frequency Levels that you can set. Below we can see that they set their Frequency levels based on Brain Wave Frequencies.
Level 1 (3 Hertz): This is within the Delta Brain Wave Frequency. This lower level is used for sleep and has an elongated calming wave form associated with it.
Level 2 (7.8 Hertz): For this Frequency they wanted to target Schumann’s Resonance. This resonance is matched to the Earth’s Magnetic Field. It also is within the wave form of the Theta Brain wave which is meant for relaxing and sleep.
Level 3 (10 Hertz): This level is meant to target the Alpha Brain Wave Frequency. As you can see from the chart the slopes from the waveform pick up in speed but it is still a relaxed state. If you are big into meditation this along with level 2 is a good waveform to be in.
Level 4 (23 Hertz): This is the level you use when you wake up and want to get stuff done! It is meant to be within the Beta brain Wave which is attentive and focused energy.
Despite the Frequencies hitting important zones we feel that this mat lacks the variety of PEMF we desire. In our other reviews we state that everyone’s PEMF is different and we firmly believe that.
Medical journals like PUB Med have stated positive results with a WIDE RANGE of PEMF Frequencies and Intensities. As shown by the numbers here: (1), (2), (3). (4).
To extract the BEST PEMF for YOU it’s best to have a device that has the most possibilities of PEMF. In relation to Frequency, Intensity, Wave Form and Drop Off Rate. In this case, if the variety of PEMF is important to you it’s recommended that you look at the Healthy Wave Multi-Wave mat.
A quick summary for those who are new to PEMF.
Frequency: is the wavelength that is measured in Hertz. Low frequencies (as you’ve seen in the chart above have longer wavelengths compared to higher frequencies. The frequency is basically how many pulses happen in a second.
Intensity: Is the measurement of strength of the magnetic field. Meaning how much of a charge your tissues get per each pulse. These intensities are measured by Tesla, Gauss or MiIi Gauss and are all around us everyday. These change based on what environment we are in.
Lower Intensity levels are used for people who want to maintain their health. While higher intensities are used for people who have illnesses or chronic disease that want to alter the way their cells run.
Wave Form: There are a few different wave forms out there such as the sine wave, square (Biphasic) Wave, Triangle Wave and SawTooth Wave. Nature and the universe in general has a wide variety of waveforms used but these are the most common.
Pulse Duration (Or Drop off Rate): This is a unit of measurement for the rise and fall of the waveform. The bigger the drop off the more intense the PEMF wave is.
The Higher Dose website does not go into its intensity, waveform or pulse duration.
*Personal Note* I have emailed Higher Dose about this information so I will update this when I hear from them.
If I was a betting man I would say that the waveform would either be a square or sine wave. As these are the waveforms that typically come with many of these crystal mats.
Far Infrared Heat
Higher Dose does not go specifically into how the far infrared heat works from its mat on its website so we will piece together some things we know.
First for those new here we will give a quick summarization on this therapy. Far Infrared Heat is an energy that all living organisms need to survive.
It can be implemented from the suns rays or in this case, heated crystal layers. When these crystals heat up they produce far infrared waves that can penetrate up to 6 inches deep into the skin.
Higher Dose do know a thing or two about Far Infrared Heat because their main successful product is the Sauna blanket.
What Do We Know About Higher Doses Far Infrared Heat?
What we do know is that their mats come with 20 pounds of Amethyst and Tourmaline crystals inside.
Like other far infrared products the mats main purpose is to use the far infrared rays penetrate deep into the body to allow increased circulation and reduce inflammation.
The temperature on the mat goes to a max of 70 C. But for Far Infrared Heat to work you don’t need to go that high.
You don’t need to have quite the sweat session as you would with the sauna blanket!
Instead of showing a specific temperature the controller shows a dial thats shows the extremes of low and high temperature.
I personally like to know what temperature level my far infrared heat is at. So I can share that temperature with my friends and family who also have mats. With this controller it’s kind of hard to say what the temperature level is exactly.
We go into more detail about the controller below.
Negative Ion Therapy
Negative ions are plentiful in natural environments such as water falls, a forest after it rains and the beach. Unfortunately most of us are surrounded by technology so you only get to receive those benefits on day trips.
When you are constantly surrounded by technology you also get inundated with positive ions. Positive ions lead to your cells clumping together because there are not enough negative ions to counter the magnetic pull.
This leads to your cells performing tasks imperfectly. When unchecked this can lead to worse problems down the road such as arthritis, heart disease and strokes to name a few (1).
What Do We Know About Higher Dose’s Negative Ion counts?
Not a whole lot unfortunately as they do not specify this information anywhere on their site. I sent an email to them enquiring on a few technical details so I’ll update when they respond.
The thing that they do have going for them is the fact that they have two of the biggest negative ion conducting stones in their mats. Amethyst and Tourmaline crystals.
This brings the discussion to…
Crystal Therapy
Crystal Therapy has been used for centuries to give off certain energies that are meant to sync your body. When heated up these powers multiply.
While Higher Dose does not have the variety of crystals that the Healthy Wave does, it did feature the most conductive stones in its mat. The Infrared PEMF mat by High Dose has 20 pounds of crystals.
Again I emailed them for more information on what the ratio is on that. Will get back to you as soon as I hear from them.
Below are more details on each kind of crystal.
Amethyst Crystal
The Amethyst crystal has been used for centuries as a healing stone. This is due in part that it has its own magnetic field which as a result provides lots of negative ions.
- Its been used for centuries throughout different civilizations.
- Provides a Negative Ion output of 1500 per cubic centimetre.
- It’s know to activate the Crown or Third Eye Chakra which helps with sleep.
- Has been reported to reduce headaches, improve digestive health, help immune system and treat mental issues.
Tourmaline Crystal
Tourmaline has been used for centuries as a grounding stone. It’s primary purpose is to deflect negative energies from your past. More benefits include
- Able to produce 1500 + Negative Ions when heated. Can produce a smaller amount when at room temperature as well.
- Tourmaline is a very conductive stone which bodes well for far infrared heat!
- It’s a good grounding stone which establishes a connection between your base chakra and the ground you stand on.
- Tourmaline produces an energy of 8-13 hertz which is in the Alpha Brain Wave Frequency zone (10 Hertz)
EMF Protection
This is where things get a bit fuzzy. On the product description Higher Dose say that it is a low EMF emitting device. They do not actually go into what this means or how it does it.
Usually good quality crystal mats have a “shielding” or EMF protection layer inserted in them. Looking at the Higher Dose layering picture below, they do not specify this EMF protection layer in their mat. Or indeed the rating that the mat gives off for EMFs.
Sizes Available
The Higher Dose PEMF mats come in two sizes. The Infrared PEMF Mat that we are reviewing in this article. The smaller size is the Infrared PEMF GO mat.
The Full sized Infrared PEMF mat is meant to be for home use which can be laid flat on the floor, on a massage table or a firm mattress.
The GO mat is the portable version that can be placed on the ground or on a sturdy back chair. Below are some of the stats.

The Mat and Controller
Below we will dissect what the Higher Dose mat is made of and how it works.
The Higher Dose Mat
Whats Included with the Higher Dose mat?(For a full video Uncle T has done a video unboxing.)
- Higher Dose Infrared PEMF MAT
- Controller and cords
- Instructions on how to use the mat

Materials
The Higher Dose Infrared PEMF Mat is made of 13 different layers
- Layer 1: Waterproof non-toxic PVC
- Layer 2: Non- toxic PVC mono netting fabric
- Layer 3: Purple Amethyst Crystals
- Layer 4: Black Tourmaline Crystals
- Layer 5: Oxford fabric
- Layer 6: Waterproof Non-Toxic PVC
- Layer 7: Detox Charcoal
- Layer 8: Heat Balancing Clay
- Layer 9: Infrared Heating Coils
- Layer 10: Bimetals and sensors for the mat
- Layer 11: 5 PEMF Coils
- Layer 12: Compressed Non-Woven Fabric
- Layer 13: Waterproof Fabric
You can compare and contrast the materials to Biomat and Healthy Wave’s 5 Therapy Mat by visiting their individual review pages.
Some of the notable differences are that both the Biomat and Healthy Wave mats have more layering in them. The Biomat consists of 17 layers while the Healthy Wave consists of 15.
The Controller
The Higher Dose controller is considerably more bulky compared to other pemf and infrared mats. It is also rather simplistic.
The Higher Dose Controller Features:
- On/Off Switch
- PEMF Button (Levels 1 to 4 described above)
- Negative ion Button
- Temperature Dial
- Heating Timer Button (1 Hour, 3 Hours or 12 Hours)
- PEMF Indicator Lights
If you want something simple that you can use which does not have a lot of settings this is a good controller for you. If you geek out on settings like I do then it’s a bit too simplistic.
I like to be able to have a lot of different settings available for me for both my PEMF and my Far Infrared Heat.
In some ways the controller reminds me a lot of the old Healthy Wave controllers that they used to have for their 5 therapy mats before they upgraded to something more sleek.
Perhaps Higher Dose will change the controller in the future as well but for now this is what you get. You will also notice on their website they don’t really show many photos of it. It’s more tucked in the background.
Where Can You Buy Higher Dose Mats?
One of the things going for this company is that they use an Ecommerce business model meaning you can order directly from them. They also have a few different distributors that you can buy from. This is not an MLM structure but more a Distributor structure.
This is also a big reason for why this is the cheapest mat on both lists. Smaller price = Less middle men.
Warranties and Guarantees
Everything was looking somewhat reasonable for this mat until we got to the warranties and guarantees.
The Higher Dose mat rated as one of the WORST in terms of warranties and guarantees. Only Biomat has a worse return period in comparison.
Diving into the warranties and guarantees more we took note of some of the return and warranty period quotes straight from their site (Under the Return and Warranty Policies Tab) .
As Per Higher Dose’s Site:
“We offer a 14-day return policy for unopened PEMF Mats. Return shipping will be at the customer’s expense.
If opened, only defective PEMF Mats will be accepted for exchange.
To be eligible for an exchange please contact us at help@higherdose.com with your order information. Please do not send your purchase back without contacting us first or a exchange may not be processed.
Once your exchange is received and inspected, we will send you an email to notify you that we have received your returned item. We will also notify you of the approval or rejection of your exchange.
Depending on where you live and available inventory, the time it may take for your exchanged product to reach you, may vary.”
In other words Higher Dose does not have a trial period AT ALL. Basically you can only return it if it has a defect or if it is unopened.
How are you supposed to know if you like the mat and are happy with it without trying it out first?
This is a stark contrast to the Healthy Wave mat that allows you to try the mat for 90 days! Healthy Wave also offers FREE Return Shipping in most of the US states (Except Hawaii and Alaska)
In terms of Warranty the Higher Dose Infrared PEMF mat comes with a 1 year limited warranty. You can see all the terms of the warranty here.
The warranty is a bit more standard and in line with how standard Infrared and PEMF mat warranties are. Here are the terms word for word from the Higher Dose warranty page.
- (a) to cosmetic damage, including but not limited to scratches, dents and broken plastic on ports, cords or controllers, unless failure has occurred due to a defect in materials or workmanship;
- (b) to damage caused by accident, abuse, misuse, fire, liquid contact, earthquake or other external cause;
- (c) to damage caused by operating the HigherDOSE Infrared PEMF Mat outside HigherDOSE’s published guidelines;
- (d) to damage caused by service performed by anyone who is not a representative of HigherDOSE;
- (e) to a HigherDOSE Infrared PEMF Mat that has been modified to alter functionality or capability without the written permission of HigherDOSE;
- (f) to defects caused by normal wear and tear or otherwise due to the normal aging of the HigherDOSE Infrared PEMF Mat; or
- (g) if HigherDOSE receives information from relevant public authorities that the product has been stolen, and you cannot prove in any way that you are the authorized user of the product (eg. by presenting proof of purchase).
The Bottom Line
While the Higher Dose Infrared PEMF mat is the cheapest mat on the list, it’s missed out on a few things.
- The fewer Variety of PEMF Frequencies available
- The lack of temperature reading for Far Infrared Heat
- A 14 Day Return policy that lacks flexibility
The Higher Dose mat is by no means a bad mat. If you are looking for a simple mat to get you into PEMF this is a good mat. The High Dose mat is great for people who want a simple, easy to understand controller and mat.
However, if you want a PEMF that is more in intune with YOU it’s best to look at the Multi Wave mat.
The Multi Wave gives you many 313 Billion Combinations of PEMF possibilities and features 12 pre-programmable settings that takes you through a WIDE RANGE of Frequencies and Intensities.
Another thing to always remember: When looking for either an infrared or PEMF mat you have to always keep a close eye on the stats as well as warranties and guarantees.
