Healing Properties: The chakra mat features all 5 healing properties (PEMF, crystal therapy, far infrared heat, negative ion therapy) and Photon Light therapy, but with a bit of a twist.
Instead of offering full body Red Light therapy the Chakra mat offers 27 Red lights in the middle of the mat while the rest are purple, light blue, blue, green yellow, and orange. This is important to note because Red Light offers the highest nm penetration amount. So if you are looking for just Red Light therapy it may be best to look at the 5 therapy mat. Although the other photon lights still provide benefits, We will explain more in the Photon section
Crystals: The Chakra mat also offers 7 different crystals than the standard amethyst and Tourmaline combinations found on most of the mats in the chart. While a lot of these will not conduct the same negative ion levels they do give different benefits related to human chakra which we mention in the crystal section.

While at first look there are a lot of similarities between the two mats. If you look at the specs you’ll see that some of the stats are a little different. Firstly the PEMF stats are the same and have the same stats and functionalities running from 1-30 Hz having 8 PEMF coils with a biphasic waveform with an average mat surface Gauss of 3.5.
The main difference between the two mats is the crystal varieties. The Chakra mat has a total of 7 different crystals that represent full chakra alignment in your body. The specific stones selected promote reduced tension by relaxing your muscles while delivering far infrared heat which helps with clear thinking, reduced stress, and a calm mind which helps conquer your day.
I know when its the winter I often get a stiff neck and shoulders so I will lay on this mat at the beginning of the day to warm up and reduce the tension in my neck, shoulders, and back.
The Healthy Wave 5 Therapy mat uses crystals that generate more negative ions focusing on crystals that can produce 1500 negative ions per square cm in both Amethyst and Tourmaline crystals. Combined these crystals add up to a total of 3000 negative ions generated per square centimeter. The crystals selected in the Chakra mat generate less than half that amount at 700 per square centimeter.
In terms of Photon Therapy, the 5 Therapy mat focuses more on Red light which has a penetration of 660 nm (nanometer) and has the highest penetration level of any other photon light. While the Chakra mat offers 7 different lights all with different nanometer penetration levels available.

To begin with, the Chakra mat offers more of a complete range of therapies with PEMF and Photon included while the Soft mat offers 3 therapies (Far Infrared Heat, Crystal, and Negative Ion Therapy). The main advantage of the Soft mat is that it is a more portable and flexible mat which makes it more portability friendly and can be used on more surfaces due to its flexibility.
The Soft mat can be used on the couch, bed, floor, chair, or just about anywhere that requires contours or bending. The Chakra mat is 9 lbs heavier and folds in 2 different areas. It cannot be as flexible because of the PEMF coils inside of it which need to be housed on a flat surface to avoid damage. Because the Softmat does not have PEMF coils it can be bent any which way and can even be used as a flexible blanket.

Both mats offer at least 4 therapies but within those 4 therapies is where some of the differences lie. For one the Chakra mat offers more PEMF insights into their PEMF stats as well as has more Frequency options with 30 (1-30 Hertz) compared to 4 frequencies that lie between 3 and 23 Hertz that are provided by Higher Dose.
Higher Dose also has 4 PEMF coils compared to the 8 found on the Chakra and 5 Therapy mats. These 4 coils offer less mat surface coverage of PEMF which would mean that the mat most likely has a weaker surface area Gauss. More coils = more PEMF surface coverage.
A few other note-worthy things is the fact that Higher Dose is overall a more bulky package. Even when I was carrying both I could feel the extra 10 lbs of weight. Higher Dose offers the most crushed Amethyst at 20 Lbs but that is primarily the only stone they use aside from a few strips of tourmaline.
I also felt the Higher Dose mat to be harder to put away because the bulky controller takes up a good amount of space in the bag. If you look at the Higher Dose website they rarely show pictures of the controller.
Another thing to note is the fact that Higher Dose does not offer Photon Light therapy which has been proven in scientific studies to have a wide range of benefits. Having said all of this Higher Dose is a good amount cheaper for the Pro mat compared to the Chakra mat but you get the 5-year controller warranty and the 90-day return period on the Chakra mat. As of the time of writing the Higher Dose mat does state that it will extend the return policy from November 1st to be until January 25th for holiday time.

One of the main differences between the Healthy Wave mats and the Biomat is the business model. Biomat has an MLM style business model which means distributors are encouraged to not just sell the product but also recruit people to sell the product. This in turn inflates the price of the mat. However in this case the Biomat is cheaper than the Chakra mat due to it having one crystal variety.
Despite the Biomat having a cheaper price point you do miss out on PEMF and Photon therapies which are both therapies that have been studied more in recent times and have been found to have a wide array of benefits.
While Biomat has been around for a while and has an overall good customer satisfaction rating with good negative ion readings, it does have a harsh return period. The period goes as follows:

How the Healthy Wave Chakra Mat Works
The Chakra mat has many of the same characteristics as the Healthy Wave 5 Therapy mat but its therapies target areas that benefit clearing your blockages in your chakras which will be explained in the Crystal therapy section of this review.
The Chakra mat can use a combination of all 5 therapies (Far Infrared Heat, PEMF, Photon, Crystal, and Negative Ion) all at once to give you a complete wellness session.
Far Infrared Heat
Far Infrared heat involves transferring heat from the heated crystals to your body using an invisible wave of energy that provides a soothing effect that can relax tense muscles and increase blood flow to affected areas of the body. It mimics a similar effect that the sun creates that gives all creatures the warmth they need to survive.
In the Healthy Wave Chakra mat you get 7 different crystals that provide 5-14 µm (4 – 8 inches). Infrared heat can be detected up to 20 µm. This allows deep-penetrating heat surpassing layers of the epidermis and dermis to soothe irritated tissues and increase blood flow to surrounding tissues while also removing toxins from the area.
I personally like to have the Far Infrared heat around 54 – 57 C (130 – 135 F) when using the mat as I find that range warms me up without feeling too hot. But other may prefer their FIR to be cooler or hotter.
The controller of the Chakra mat goes from 30 – 70 C (86 – 158 F), all of which can give off far infrared heat. The rule of thumb is the warmer the mat is more soothing infrared heat it generates.
Crystal Therapy
The Chakra mat offers more crystal varieties than any other mat on our infrared mat list. But How do some of these other crystals differ to some of the more common crystals like Amethyst and Tourmaline?
For one the crystals in the chakra mat are added inside for a different reason. Each crushed stone added is designated to a specific chakra and is used to keep your chakras in balance.
While stones from the other mats are more focused on negative ion generation placing high negative conducting stones inside their mats. Which you place more importance on is completely up to you!
Below are the stones in the Chakra Mat and what they represent.
The crown chakra can also be a good negative ion conductor at 1500 negative ions per square cm. The crown chakra represents symptoms around a spiritual awakening which gives you more compassion, clarity of the mind, and a greater sense of purpose. When blocked, some symptoms you may experience include an inability to focus, light and sound sensitivity, and disconnection from yourself and values.
Represented as the 3rd eye chakra. The 3rd eye focuses on your forehead and brow. It helps connect to your intuition which allows you to make decisions as well as keep a razor-sharp mind. When closed off you can feel a lack of imagination, difficulty visioning the future, and poor memory.
Representing the throat chakra, helps us express feelings and emotions. When this chakra is blocked it can lead to sore throats, jaw tension, and thyroid issues.
Represents the heart chakra which targets areas of your life that involve compassion, balance between yourself and your outer world, and feelings of love, healing, and forgiveness. When not in balance you could find difficulty expressing yourself, others easily hurt you or you are disconnected from relationships and your surroundings.
Representing the solar plexus (or the naval) chakra Yellow Aventurine represents willpower and personal abundance. When this chakra is not in balance some symptoms include self-doubt, insecurities, and a lack of direction.
Represents the 2nd chakra known as the sacral chakra which governs creativity and courage. Carnelian can be used for lower back pain (hence why it is located where your lower back would be) and rheumatoid arthritis. It has also been known to promote sexual wellness and boost fertility and has been known as the sexual chakra.
Represents the base or root chakra that grounds you. Red jasper is associated with calmness and the ability to see through difficult situations. If your root chakra is blocked it can cause you a sense of depression, anxiety aimlessness, and an inability to take action. I like to sit on this mat and meditate for 10-20 mins with the FIR heat on so I can feel the warmth coming in.
The newer 7 crystal chakra mats have each stone on each side of the mat until the Red Jasper is met in the middle.
Negative Ion Therapy
You know that refreshed feeling you get when you go on a hike, are in nature or even sitting next to a babbling brook or a waterfall? Part of that revitalized energy is coming from the abundance of negative ions in the air that are conducted in natural environments.
They are in the air we breathe the food we eat and are part of our natural state. Unfortunately, we now live in a world of Free Radicals which happens when there is an overabundance of positive ions. We need both for out cells to work properly.
However, when we are in industrial areas filled with wires and electronics we get an abundance of positive ions which leads to cells clustering together and lacking function. It’s when there is an overabundance of these free radicals over an extended period that we can get diseases in our body that fester such as cancers and tumors. 
An abundance of negative ions helps break up these free radicals over an extended period. This is where Infrared mats come in if you don’t have regular access to the wonders of nature. Of course, this is not a pure replacement for being in nature, but it does a good job of giving your body the negative ions it needs to combat that abundance of positive ions in our suburban or city environments.
Where the Chakra mat falls behind the 5 Therapy mat is negative ion counts. The 5 therapy mat offers gemstones that conduct an abundance of negative ions at 3000 cc per minute while the Chakra mat offers 700cc per minute.
While the Chakra mat does offer Amethyst it only provides 2 lbs of it. The other stones can conduct some negative ions but not as many as the known conductors found in amethyst and tourmaline.
PEMF Therapy
In this review, we have sort of brushed over PEMF as this is a mat that we have categorized in the Best Infrared mats list. However, the Chakra mat offers all the same PEMF functionalities as the 5 therapy mat.
For those unfamiliar with PEMF, PEMF (or Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy) are electronic fields that run through 8 copper wires of the Healthy Wave Charka mat. They provide mini electromagnetic pulses or volts to your cells which helps stimulate them. Continuous sessions with these pulses help increase your cells and tissues’ functionality over an extended period of time.

Photon Light Therapy
The Healthy Wave Chakra Mat offers Photon therapy with different colors associated to match the different chakra stones. All of which have different wavelengths.
This is different from that of the 5 therapy mat because the 5 therapy mat uses dark red light therapy which offers the highest penetration nm levels while the Chakra mat offers 7 lights all with different wavelengths mentioned below. The Pro Chakra mat offers 117 photon lights while smaller mats will have less. Below are the following colors and their associated wavelengths.

These photon lights (especially the Red light) can penetrate past the dermis (your skin) to give your tissues the beneficial light that they need to function and flourish. It should be noted that for these lights to be truly effective they should be pressed against the skin. They can be effective with clothing on but clothes do limit some of the effectiveness of the photon lights.
EMF Filtration Layer

The Mat and Controller
Below we show how the mat is designed and how the controller works. While the mat is one of the heavier ones I did like the amount of crystals they added to the mat. I suspect that the mat is priced higher than the 5 therapy mat because the crystals cost more compared to just having Amethyst and Tourmaline.
The Mat
The Chakra Mat consists of around 14 layers with the Pro mat weighing 33 lbs. As stated in the crystals section it has 7 different stones that represent your 7 different chakras.

I like to use this mat on the floor or sometimes even on my bed when I am reading. The pro mat can be used as a yoga mat as well to do exercises on.
The Controller
The Chakra mat comes with a standard controller that is handheld. While it may not have the same pizzazz as the Biomat controller it is compact which makes packing the controller away much easier.
Some controllers like the ones included with Higher Dose and Ereada feature big bulky controllers which are rather unnecessary and not exactly the best-looking feature about their mats.
The Healthy Wave Controller is easy to use with the following controls:
Circle Button: On/ Off
Temp: You press this button to control the temperature. Simply press it once and then use the plus and minus buttons to control what temperature you would like. It goes up to a maximum of 55 degrees Celsius.
Time: Is the Timer for how long you want the mat to heat up for. Use the Plus and minus buttons to control the time interval after pressing “time”
PEMF: Controls what the frequency of the PEMF is. Goes from 1-30 Hertz for 20 minutes then switches off for 100.
Photon: Turns the Red Light Therapy on and off
One of the things I like about the controller is that I can just put the mat on my bed and preheat it while I’m working. The controller is small enough to just be placed next to the mat. As opposed to having to make space for a behemoth unnecessarily sized controller next to it.

Before going into production Healthy Wave Mats have to be cleared with the FDA. Any Mat manufacturer must go into the process of filling out a 510 (k) and getting approved before getting the green light to sell these devices.
This ensures that proper labeling, descriptions, and risks are properly documented to the customer before use. Unlike many Mat manufacturers of its type, Healthy Wave the company is based in the USA. The mats are made in China but need this clearance to be sold in the United States so their means of production have to comply with the FDA.
A good clue as to judging the quality of the mat is to look at customer satisfaction, certifications, and the warranty/ returns period. Which brings us to….
Warranties and Guarantees
The Chakra mat like all classic 5/4 therapy mats has a 15-month warranty on the mat and a 5-year warranty on the controller. You can also get an extension on this warranty for a bit extra.
In terms of warranty period compared to the other mats it is one of the better ones especially when you consider the controller. In at least 80% of return cases the problem usually has to do with the controller. If you have a problem you can simply contact Healthy Wave support and they will get you sorted first with troubleshooting and then if need be a warranty replacement.
Healthy Wave offers a 90-day return period also known as a trial period to see how you like the product. This is by far the most flexible period of any of the mats on the list and also something we feel all infrared and PEMF mats should have.
90 days is enough time to really try out the different therapies to see if the mat can be a tool in your wellness journey.
